On November 8th of 2016, the unbelievable happened. Donald trump was able to secure Florida, flip Pennsylvania, and ultimately secure his victory in the white house. The next day, Wednesday November 9th, the entire campus of a high school in suburbia america was in ruin. People were in tears. Real tears. Sincere tears. Teachers would shift their lessons for the day away from the curriculum and towards reflection.
That day, many misconceptions were made. Many called the new president elect fascist, although clearly they had no idea what they were talking about. One thing that really grinds my gears is when people say something completely wrong and others regard it as truth. Fascism is the marriage between government and industry, quite literally the opposite of the republican party ideology, as the republican party believes in limited government and a free market economy. In fact, Secretary Clinton resembles fascism more than Trump, for the simple fact that she, aside from her party, believes that the government and industry should work together.
Fascism, communism, capitalism. These are all economic systems, designed on trying to curate the most efficient way for capital to circulate in a society. This notion has changed. Now Fascism means Hitler, Communism means China, and Capitalism is spit on by those benefiting from it most. When Fidel Castro died, many people defended him, calling him honorable. Even the Prime Minister of Canada revered him as a good leader. There were people in classes with me, glorifying him. The only relation they have with communist Cuba is Che Guevara plastered on buildings of socialist believers in america, but they never talk about the concentration camps, the racism and ethnic cleansing, the firing squads. Socialism is responsible for upwards of 125 million lives over the time span of roughly 100 years, but still people revere it as an amazing system of equality and shared wealth.
There is a transgender student in one of my classes (From boy to girl). In a class discussion the day after the election, “She” said,”I am just afraid of what he will do to my people. I am scared that he is going to ban me”. If anything, if this was your priority, The President Elect was the right choice for you. He has stated for many years that he doesn’t care what people do with their bodies. In an interview he stated that if Caitlyn Jenner were to enter Trump tower, he wouldn’t care which bathroom she would use. Caitlyn Jenner even called trump a a Champion for Women and LGBT People. All this while the savior for the democratic party HRC changed her mind on Gay marriage multiple times in the span of roughly a decade.
There is also talk of a possible split between the traditional republican and the progressive republican party, but I highly doubt this. If anything, and there most likely will not be a major third party for decades, the democratic party would split. People outraged at the DNC and Clinton for the sabotage of Sanders campaign. The ‘socialist’ democrats may well split from the ‘fascist’ democrats. And the best part of that was that if the DNC hadn’t have hijacked Bernie campaign, He probably would have won. He also would have probably won republican votes in some places, because people can trust him. Senator Sanders had a tremendous economic plan, however, he is a honorable man, and if he had lost, there would have been no instigation for recount from him. He may be a socialist, but he understands what it means to represent the people, something many people have lost.
Gerrymandering and re elections have cause corruption, especially in Maryland, where republicans actually make up a fairly large chunk of the population, but the extreme gerrymandering makes it impossible for anyone besides a democrat to be in office. The only reason the current Governor is a republican is because Martin O’Malley was the equivalent of giving a jigsaw puzzle to a quadriplegic toddler and saying “figure it out”. During his term as governor, he literally, not sarcastically, but literally taxed the rain. Why? Well because Maryland.
If you were able to read this far I sincerely thank you. Its 3 AM and I have classes tomorrow but for now I’m figuring this out. Who knows, maybe it will evolve into something big (Probably not).
